Hello. Check the "Best Laptop for LE" thread. A 1.4 Centrino or a 2500+ AMD both do 32 + 8 or more on the DaveC, as good as any desktop. Mbox is fine, there are workarounds for the latency with the Mono and Playback buttons.

Yea you are headed in a great direction here. The new Centrino laptops are kicking butt with PTLE and are outperforming the dual Mac G4 1.25 Ghz machines as well as many P4 desktops now. The X1000 series Compaqs are making a great name for themselves lately and you should be able to get up to 1.7Ghz now with the Centrino setups. Good luck and keep us posted. Allen

thanks for your comments. I've read the best laptop thread and it seems that the centrino is killing everything! I think it's gonna be the Samsung x5. It doesnt seem that having a ge-force card makes much difference to the audio performance (am I wrong?). So it makes no sense to spend 40 quid extra on the x10. With the money I'll save I could even get a cheap ibook to use some of those mcdsp plugins!! Now I'm deciding on whether to get an mbox or a 002 rack. And will 002 rack be buss powered on these laptops??
