Automation help needed quickly please...

Hello. I hate to seem demanding, but I am currently attempting to mix a track I intend to play this evening... I am running pro tools free on mac os 9.1 (g4 pb) I am having troubling assinging seperate automation (drawn freehand with pencil) to each audio track. When I attempt it, it assigns it globally. In the manual it says the auto data is written in the playlist, so I assume it would be necessary to assign a seperate playlist to each track and proceed. The only problem is, I cannot find the button to set or create playlist. The way it is pictured in the manual (small arrow to left of track name in edit window) does not appear in pro tools free. Am i unable to assign seperate automation (volume control primarily) to each individual track, or is there another method? Any help is greatly, greatly appreciated. in the edit window there is a pop up bar that should say "waveform"...click on it and choose volume. You should now have a line going across your screen (provided you have not written any volume automation" Take the hand tool and click a point on the line, set another point and drag it up (more volume) or down (less). in the track window set the track to "auto read" use the "all" group to write automation to all tracks... hope this helps, blade
