This can't be by design. You can only solo midi if the VSTI is on the same track? - I have a Roland Super Quartet VSTI on daw channel 1. - All my other tracks are sending midi to it. - When I solo any of those midi tracks I get no sound - If I also solo the track with the VSTI I get *all* the sounds? This cannot be right. Does this mean I have to mute all of the other tracks just to hear one by itself? I have the drums soloed here with no sound. To hear them I have to put channel 1 in solo, and then I hear everything? Am I missing an option somewhere? If not, shouldn't that midi solo flow all the way through the VSTi output?

Hmm, I can understand why you also have to solo the vsti track, but in that case only the soloed midi track should send data to it of course. Never crossed this problem as I only used multitimbral synths in combination with multi audi outputs and soloed the audio side. I think this is a quite serious flaw. ++1 for the request for a proper solo of midi tracks.

A "solo" should keep live the entire path of whatever is soloed all the way to the master. If it's midi it should mute the other midi parts and let that one part play. It makes no sense to me in this context. I sat down (once again) to just "play around" with some midi in Reaper thinking (once again) that I haven't given it a fair shot and I need to look deeper. Every time I do that on the midi side I end up frustrated by really basic things, not even the "shiny" stuff people keep talking about as people call advanced features. This is basic stuff. I'll post a (really noisy) Camstasia video in a moment showing some of my frustrations up close. Particularly how you can't resize midi parts to kill program changes at the beginning of tracks, they just slide along to the right with the resize. ?? Meaning you have to manually edit them all out? Here it is... it's noisy as hell but.. P.S. I zoomed in and looked and it does the same thing with other controllers like volume, pan, effects 91/92 etc. It doesn't size over them it just slides them along while the list editor shows the original position. =============== ??? Do the program changes even show up in the list editor?

Now, that's incredible indeed. I confirm this for v2.53. Should be in big bold letters in the bug reports section. Tried with pan and program change messages, both slide along with the item start. Although they are displayed at their original position in PRV and event list, they actually get sent with the new item start. Wow. To edit program changes in the midi editor you should use the bank/program lane instead. This combines bank and program messages to one nice event. You can indeed doubleclick in that lane and select and edit program changes very conveniently. So on that part you can ease your frustration a bit. Though having an overall bank select thingie directly on the track would be a nice one. But that slip issue just leaves me speechless. Absolutely. EDIT: program change events show up in the event list here.

Phew, cool. thanks for fixing that one and thanks, Lawrence for finding and pointing it out. I hope the solo issue gets solved too sooner than later, too.
