Mix maestro Charles Dye is in production with his new . This time around he is doing it on multiple DAW formats and not just Pro Tools. Stills from early production show him also doing mixes in Nuendo and Sonar for this new "how to" DVD. Let's rally up the troops and get him to also do a mix in REAPER. To request that he also includes a mix in REAPER, Do this NOW!! :D :D This will be great exposure for REAPER if this is done. I have personally chatted with Charles Dye and have acquired much help and some great mixing tips from him over the years via all his posts throughout various audio forums etc. Let's get REAPER added to this new Mix It Like a Record DVD!! :D Shane
On a usefullness level, you'll see things in the humble ReaMix which you won't find Charles doing. Oh and yeah, i don't think we've got ReaSaturate_the_living_daylights_out_of_your_mater ial plug yet that might prove necessary for this particular approach.... Any additional exposure is good, so i guess i'm in support of this. I guess it isn't the only way to mix it 'like a record' though...
I'd rather big up Reamix and get that established as a mixing 'bible' (which it is IMHO). I'm sure 'Mix it..' is great and I've heard a lot of good stuff about it - but I ruled it out when I saw the price.
The first mix it' video was one of the most annoying thing I ever saw(OTOH, it does answer the question:how much video FX can you cram in a video if you disregard taste altogether...). I understand they tried to make it entertaining, but the end result was only annoying and confusing; not what I expected at all. I'll leave it to Justin and co. to decide if they want to be associated with that at all.
I agree. The first MILAR was horrible. There was a lot of good information and good philosophical discussion about what "a record" really is, what makes a record sound "finished" and ready but it was all buried within horrible video production. Rather ironic that the mixing information was professional but the video side kind of like "my first youtube video" quality. Hope they toned down on the effects and got a guy who isn't color blind to produce it. Cheers! bManic
I saw MILAR and got to be honest: is the worst training I've seen in my life. It looked like a tv commercial where Dye was trying to convince us to buy a product, really annoying that hypocrite attitude. If REAPER is included or not tbh I don't care at all. It'd be good for marketing and stuff tho.
Where is it that we're supposed to Ask to include REAPER?? Just comment at the end of the MiLaR Univ., click leave comment?? there are 2 there now and none say anaything about REAPER. I'll suggest it for sure, but after ReaMix I can't see spending the cash on it, when I've got to believe that if it's kinda overviewing multiple DAW's it won't get in depth enough to show me anything ReaMix didn't or any new pointers or insight. I do agree with DAZZ, ReaMix for the info alone could be marketed as a "Mixing go to guide" on a wider scale than just REAPER users.
I've met Charles in person, had lunch with him and attended his lecture. He is a good guy, that's for sure. He also repeatedly says that any plugins can do what he does with his favourites so he is definitely NOT out to sell any plugins. However, the MILAR DVD was still a major disappointment as it requires a lot of patience to dig out the advice. It's also not targeted at beginners, it might seem that way but to get the full benefit of his advice, I suggest having at least 3-5 years of recording/mixing experience under the belt. Cheers! bManic
