I have a question about the track colours, I'd like to see everything in clear different colours but right now, the midi parts only have a small border and notes of the selected colour. While the basic background colour stays the same. Example: I noticed that when you click on one of the parts, they show a nice fully coloured part. Here's an example of where I clicked on a green coloured track: What I want to know is, if it is possible to have all tracks look like that full solid coloured track all the time so you can easily identify each part?

You can edit most colours in Reaper via Options/Preferences/Appearance/Colour Scheme and save as a colour scheme. For now and a Quicky change all the your Track colours to individual custom colours by right clicking on the Track control Area on the left and choose Set Track Colours To Custom Colour. This will change the way parts are highlighted. I use the basic convention of Red for my drum tracks.Brown for Bass.Green for Keyboard.Blue for guitar or shades of the above.Yellow for Vocals. That way I have an easy visual reference for tracks. HTH :)

Thanks but that is not exactly what I meant. If you have 16 midi tracks going, only the highlighted parts are a solid colour, the rest of the parts all have the same background colour, except for the fact that the midi notes and a little border are a different colour. So it's not possible to do it differently? I guess if I made the background colours of midi parts totally black it would be easier to spot the different colours.

You can give item backgrounds any color you want. In Preferences-> Appearance->Color Theme search for the entries 'Media item background (odd tracks) and the same for (even tracks). If your question is about how items are colored with the custom track or custom item colors, go preferences->Appearance->Media. There you find the options 'tint media background to custom track colors' and 'tint backgrounds to custom item colors'.

and thanks again. didn't realize how useful this stuff (custom coloring) was until i started using it. additional thanks to all the people who have been working on these aspects of reaper while i was busy hunting and pecking, trying to remember my keyboard shortcuts for glue, copy/paste, etc...
