Hello everybody, I'd like to start this thread to get people's view/feedback on the new in-line MIDI editor. What's cool? What's not? What works? What doesn't? What's more? and so on .. :D

What's cool? Now we can edit/modify notes without the built-in ME. We can clearly set a tight timing with audio items. We can see our arragement faster and decide where to move and/or select. and yes, it's the IN-LINE EDITOR! What else can be said? One step further. What's not NOTHING What works? Still testing... But as far as I can see "almost" everything What doesn't? and here comes the "almost" part: (1)copy a MIDI item showing In-Line Editor with Ctrl+c and then try to paste it with Ctrl+v twice in different locations on same track... nothing happens (it paste the item only one time... second time it's blocked somehow).(2) When pressing F to fit contents key notes are not readable and notes do not display their names when you have that option ticked. what's more? We have zoom in/out vertically actions... why don't we have another one: zoom vertically. We'd be able to bind it to mousewheel. Thanks guys! You rock... MIDI love for MIDI lovers (and I'm not one of them) ;)
Ok, is this a bug or not. You can open the editor using the E button. Good. As long as you don't unselect the clip, you can close with the E button. However, if you unselect it and then select it again to close it, you have to hit E twice. Definitely not a big deal. But just thought I would mention it. Also, maybe the ability to open the editor without selecting the clip, but the track? It would just open every clip on the track or something like that? Brent
Ok perhaps I have a wrong setting or something, but if I have all my tracks set to their minimum height and I hit E to open the in line editor I have to "maximize" the track to see the editor Perhaps the in line editor should "maximize itself" to the size of the arrangement window? Not sure that this would be a good idea, but some sort of "enlarging" should happen otherwise it gives the impression that in fact nothing has happened? Thoughts? Comments?

OK, i'll play devils advocate here (although i'm of course glad it's finally here..;-): what exact advantage does this inline midi editor offer over the sync state of the docked midi editor (which is genious!)? IMO this is a little bit much energy invested in something not really useful. it takes at least as many if not more actions to edit something than to do it with the regular docked synced editor. but that's just me, i know that a lot of folks wanted that badly.
inline midi is great! you can have two tracks open. you can dock something else, like the mixer, and have that open, too. you don't need to mess with screen sets to have a look at the midi. and you can see the whole track inline, not just the item you have double clicked. you can keep an overview of the arrangement and see all the midi notes you want, too. i a really look forward to this. and yes, it needs quantize. if you record yourself, inline midi is especially valuable. you then need quick access to quantizing, without opening another editor first.
You can "Ctrl + Left-Click + Drag" up and down on the little up/down arrow icon on the upper-right of the inline midi window. This will let you zoom in and out to make notes taller or shorter. Normal "Left-Click + Drag" will scroll up and down within the inline midi editor. - Mike
When "Mouse clicks/edits in track view change track selection" in Preferences, Editing Behavior, Mouse is on; track have at least one Automation lane visible; Track is big enough like in this image : When clicking for adding a note, screen move up or down and the note is created somewhere, but not at the right pitch.
