When recording I have to use the mixer (CTRL m) and cover most of the screen with it, otherwise I get clicks. I've tried turning off the monitor (17" LCD) and that didn't help. Playback is fine. Latency is 6ms. I like to see the written wav data real time but can't now due to the clicks. Any ideas?? My system Asus A8V, Athlon 64 3500+ 2g ram RME Multiface, Presonus used as 8 channels of analog, Akai DPS24 used as 8 channels of ADAT, Mackie Control Universal Pro (USB) WinXP Home sp3.

What about tuning windows e.g disabling all unnneeded graphics enahncements. My Computer/Right click/Properties/Performance and playing around. It may be just windows graphics using too many resources.I run Winxp pro and have speed tuned the system for gaming which also helps with recording.

studioguy are you recording to a dedicated drive ?? and not the win os drive ?? particularly recording multiple traks at once its best to record to a dedicated drive. run tests. sounds to me your stressing your single processor system somewhere. why do you want to see the wav data written while recording ?? if the cliks go away when you turn that off it means your system cant keep up i suspect. you might be useing an old low performanmce drive ?? more details on hard drives used please . what bit depth/sampling rate ?? frankly for recording multiple traks azt a time i would use a drive with 32 mb cache. they are cheap at 80 buks.

Update your video driver? I had a similar problem with a laptop. Updating the driver and limiting how much system RAM it could access solved it. It's one of those integrated jobbies that "shares" system RAM. Thank goodness in the BIOS they let you set a manual limit... D

I have observed that whenever I first turn on the REAPER "Performance meter" window the scrolling graph of CPU load (that starts being generated at that point in time) shows a big spike that lasts for a fraction of a second only. If a project is running at average 5% CPU load, say, the brief extra CPU load when the Performance meter window is turned on can peak up to 50% CPU load! That is not a problem, but it does reveal that at least one REAPER window is capable of sucking in a massive dose of CPU resources. All the other REAPER windows will have different characteristics. They must all be using some CPU load, unless they are entirely static displays - such as the Routing matrix. There may be some critical preferences settings that can make certain windows use excessive CPU load - enough to overload the entire system and cause clicks when running a low latency setup (i.e. a small audio buffer size). I am recalling things such as VU meter update speeds, wave "peaks" drawing settings (if peaks are set to be generated during recording - ahah!?! antialiased/fancy edges!!?) etc. Perhaps that set of thoughts will help towards a solution to your problem.

Hi Studioguy and welcome to the forums! Besides what the other guys already proposed, you could try to go to "Options -> Preferences -> Appearance" and set at "UI updates:" "Lazy when playing/recording". Also you can additionally untick "Antialiased peak and waveform drawing" at "Options -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Media". HTH -Data

Reaper has been nearly flawless since the driver reinstall. I also run in a window (non full screen). I've had NO clicks since.
