I've been messing around with this one for quite awhile. This is not mastered, but a possible final mix. Please, any feedback at all: performance, mix (especially), titleing (not sure I speeled that right), vibe... whatever. The one I need the info on is "Still Not Through." snskrt
nice song, cant fault the songwriting or performance. really like the tune. drums (and possibly guit and bass) seem to be a bit overcompressed for a quiet song like this. vox could possibly use a bit more compression. hard to hear in some spots. The acoustic space does not seem to be quite clearly defined. Sometimes it seems the vox is in a completely different environment from the bed track. hope that helps roland

Sounds excellent! Nice song. ;) Only thing (nitpick for sure), I'm hyper sensitive to the 3-4k or 7-8k range in lead vox that kinda bites you when the dynamics go up. Maybe some automation or even a stragetically set de-esser can tame some of that. The mastering house will take care of it though. Great mix dude... really good singing. :)
Thank you all for the comments. They're all very much appreciated. Dbear: I'll definately have another look at the compression settings, and thank you for the feedback on the intelligibility of some of the lyric. junioreg: Thanks man. And thanks Lawrence as well. I've actually had your mixes in my head these days, and I've been AB'ing my stuff with them. On those eq ranges: they've been giving me some trouble. I've been working pretty hard at getting that in-your-face/hyper-present vox sound. It's a bit of a puzzler. I'll have to take another look at my eq's. Thanks again! snskrt

It sounds fantastic in my monitors and cans.Great song, performance and recording IMHO.You have an an American,"Mick Huckanall" quality to your voice which is superb. Just play the mix on a few different systems and if is sits well then no problems. All replies remember are subjective and everyone's systems are different and their musical and sound tastes the same. There can come a point of diminishing returns where too much tweaking may lose sight of the feel or sound of a song that the artiste wanted to capture. This is one of the best sounding and performed songs I've heard on these forums. My 10 penn'th :)
Can't say much about mixing - too little knowledge, i didn't quite understand what Lawrence wrote - but this is very, very impressive! Great voice. And all goes well together. Playing, instrumentation, sounds, arrangement, dynamics... Awesome!
Smooth !!! I don't know how else to describe it. You,ve just nailed the groove right from the moment it starts. The mix sounds great on my system I love how theres so much depth to the instruments yet it doesn't sound like their swamped in reverb ( how do you do that?) You didn't mention what instruments your playing but the playing is 1st class, not to mention your truely blessed with a great voice, man i hate you ;) seriously a song you should be proud of. Cheers
Wow! Very nice, indeed, Sanskrit! Great vox, arrangement, and playing. Can't wait to hear it again after you apply the recommendations from the others. Kyle
