Hey everyobody. I've been digging through here and other forums to try to figure out why I get no sound on my MOTU even though I have reinstalled all the drivers (3.6.7.4 version to avoid latency) on my Windows XP Home machine. I recently cloned my old hard drive using Western Digital's data lifeguard. Running off of the clone, I get no sound coming out of the motu. Just as quick background. I've had issues before. Reaper would freeze on startup but would sometimes keep chugging if I unplugged the motu. I replaced the firewire card AND had to eventually send the motu back, and they sent me what I believe was a different MOTU. It's been running ok before the clone (and it ran fine after a previous clone). I' usually get problems where the Audio Console won't load, and I have to restart both the motu and the computer. However, that's not the issue here. Things weren't working, so I reinstalled all the motu drivers. I disabled the onboard soundcard. MOTU shows up as devault in sound devices control panel, AND I can monitor my mic inputs using cuemix. Other htan that, I get no other sound. When repear starts, it says the MOTU audio device is not recognized and reaper is unable to run well. I get no sound from itunes, winamp, windows media, youtube, or anything else, just the input monitoring in cuemix. I hope I gave enough details. I would love to have some help on this, and I don't want to reinstall the os. Thanks. Anyway, I'm falling asleep here,s o I'm afraid I'm getting incoherent. Let me know if you have any ideas.

Well, now reaper says it doesn't detect my MOTU, but everything else is running it fun. I get the windows alert sound when reaper's error message pops up. Maybe this hard drive clone was complicated than I expected.

i have reaper runnin with motu828mk3, not sure of driver version but it was nothing but trouble to setup, working fine now but it refuses to work with cooledit/audition on one pc, all have TI firewire cards, never worked out why but tech support at motu was a joke, cant wait to replace it with something that works all the time, dont think that really helps sorry

Are you running Texas Instruments Firewire chips? Also, let me pass on some problems we had at my last job... we cloned hundreds of PCs and sent them to offices around the world. Then they started having weird irreproduceable problems... we were told that EVERY change in components can build into Windows failures with cloned drives because installs look at EVERYTHING in a PC and loads specific drivers that can butt heads with each other if the hardware is changed even a little; tiny incompatibilities that multiply. We went back to doing fresh installs and all the problems went away. ---------------------------------------------- Been running a Gateway P4 laptop with TI firewire chipset to a Motu828mkII daisy-chained to a Glyph firewire drive for several years with ZERO PROBLEMS.
