This is Interesting. :) read it on the news section on Doom9's site. When I first got my DVD-Burner I never thought of burning DVD-Rs would be possible at 8X that fast. But technology these days... Is Mitsubishi the only vendor for 8X that we know yet? You guys think there will be dvd-r burners in a few years that can burn fast as cd-r burners. ...maybe somewhat close to 24X ? Well, I was wondering what you guys think of it? :)

Well, I foresee that DVD is just another technology like CD. When it first came out, its price was very high. Right now, you can get the price about 1/5 of the original price. So, I think DVD is going to be the same (if it was up to that stage, then CD would have been extinct already). DVD standard hasn't been fully settled down yet. Also, new technologies are keep coming out. Even CD you can write at least at speed of 32x. So, I think that DVD writing speed can reach what CD writer can reach as well (maybe another 2 years though).

Ummm, my memory may be a little off, but 1x for a DVD drive is like the equivalent of 12x or 16x on a CD drive. Going by those ratios, an 8x DVD drive is ungodly fast.

The following links are some of those news you may be interested in to read: What do you think that in the future we will be able to record 100 movies into a single CD-size storage? IMO if we're still using the same speed to write 100GB on DVD, it'll take ages ;)

Data Density. Less space to travel in the same amount of time.
