Oh, bull, I was fucking with you, cause you seemed pissed about Vista (kind of what I was saying in my first post about how Everyone hates it). As far as 64 bit bridge, it's not capable yet? That's what I gathered from you. Win 7 64 Bit is very nice, so far. Installing unsigned drivers is a head ache, but I think that's for all 64 bit win versions. Dunno though. Real benefits of 64 bit reaper is the memory address right. It can do like 8 terabytes or exabytes (whatever the 64 bit limit is). I think I'm going to buy either 8 GB of 1066 DDR2 or 16 GB of 1066, since I think I might stay locked on 64 bit for a while. I'm scared of dual booting 32 bit XP, to do media streaming to my Xbox. But we'll see. Thanks a lot for the banter. Anything I'm missing? Unsigned driver help would be appreciated, I know about the admin active, and cmd prompt allow unsigned thing. Peace.
FWIW I hated Vista. Inconsistent performance, inexplicable slowdowns and an overall clunkier user experience. And I wanted to like it, really. I own two licenses for Vista, and both of them are collecting dust, downgraded to XP. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
I hate Vista because of driver issues I have with older gear that doesn't have Vista drivers... ...but I do have to say that Reaper runs like a champion race horse in my bedroom studio on my Vista laptop.
hi loser, refer to my post 22 where there's a link to a good explanation of vistas superfetch. once your computer 'learns' the apps that you use the most it is a faster experience than xp. thats what i have found. :)
This just in: Vista has higher recommended system specs than XP. Running Vista on a computer intended for XP will likely result in Vista not running terribly well. That's why everyone hated Vista so much when it first came out - all of the "Vista capable" PCs you could buy just barely met the minimum specs, so Vista ran slower than molasses in January.
Yes as Jim Said, DPC is rock solid for me. Just ear and feel, haven't tested yet. But I'm def doing 64 samples of FULL sessions loaded with crap, and Vista gives 1 or 2 crackles depending on what else I'm doing on the machine, or how I seek and play. I can live with that, since I can bump up to 128 and ROCK SOLID stability is there. About the 7 Driver issue, I had to jump down to Vista 64 and all is well. I'm still running XP, cause I have a lot of work to finish, but I know 7 or Vista is next up, just gotta find a way to port over all my plugins with MINIMAL work. FWIW, comparing Vista to my Mac, I'd take Vista. I want to ditch XP, but I have 4 HD, of about 2 TB to sort through, and I'm not about to dump my perfectly working OS anytime soon. I may image my XP build, since I know that works flawlessly, but man, time!
