Have been looking at a 1999 V70 tdi auto, but I'm not sure of the how the auto boxes should work. During the test drive I floored the throttle and the box dropped (kick)down as I would expect - however it then revved up to over 4000rpm before changing up a gear, and seemed a bit hesitant - I would have thought that it would have changed up before then - or was it because I still had my foot on the floor? Thanks Ross

Did it have E W and S buttons by the gear lever or just a WINTER button? If it's the latter, it has an adaptive shift pattern that learns from the way you drive. If you're driving style is very different from the previous owner's then it might take a time to relearn and thus seem a little hesitant possibly. I have the signle button type and find that it holds onto gears longer thr further down the pedal is pressed... I've had it since November and have to say that now I can just about make it change gear when I want it to, just by making small changes of pressure on the accellerator pedal. I have to say that mine is incredibly smoothe too - you tend to notice gear changes by the engine note and rev counter rather than anything else, unless you really plant the pedal and it kicks down hard. I have to say that this engine and gearbox combination are great for me - I just wish I could get really comfy in the car. Pete
