I've noticed over the last few days my 98 V40 T4 has picked up a bit of a rattle. When i'm coasting in gear i can hear it, if i depress the clutch pedal it goes, it also goes when i accelerate. Any ideas?
read your post... first thing that sprung to mind was engine / transmission... thought it maight be the clutch release bearing... but having read hundreds of posts on this site, the first thing to check for engine bay knocking seems to be the top engine mount.... apparently this is easy and relatively cheap to change (mine still seems ok after 225k kms... so they can last well it seems...) hope this helps???
My T4 sounds like it has the same problem, from reading on here, i thought it was the wastegate arm rattling but not sure how to cure the prob, or how much it would be to get a garage to do it?
I guess the best way to describe it is like a load of rice rolling in a metal tin???

Its the wastegate actuator rod, mine has the same problem, just havent gotten round totightening it yet. When you rev it it rattles loudly then quietens, when you boot it you hear a slight rattle and when you lift of the throttle it starts again. Trust me it'll be the wastegate. There are threads on here on how to tighten them etc. Good luck.
