I'm using DVD2DVDR. This is a widescreen version of 2001 a space odyssey. I selected Anamorphic - no borders added 16:9. The final out come I got was a strected out picture it was a smaller picture and the bars were thicker than the original. What caused it to come out so screwed up?
Hi crazy I would suggest you have a look at the DVD2SVCD Q&A found especially Q57 & Q62 which gives a lot of info on aspect Ratio's As a newcomer to this Forum myself I have learnt a lot from there, also use the search button, you will usually find someone has already asked the same question You will find the more knowledgeable members of the forum are more likely to help someone who tries to help themselves first. Hope this helps Mark :)

it wouldn't hurt to get a straight answer. I mean I'm trying to learn. I used the search button before asking my question (searched 2001 space odessey). Those references you pointed out are for SVCD and Divx for the most part.
okay i read in depth and found out its 4:3. The easy way to figure it out is open IFOedit and it will tell. Thanks.

Its widescreen.. but letterbox widescreen.. basically 4:3 with bars added. if you encode with dvd2avi you would have to use 4:3 (no borders, encoded as 4:3) if you do anamorphic you will get a squished picture the technical details for 2001 are on amazon.com p.s. if you have a widescreen tv it may be worth it for you to use the edit the avs option in d2d2dvdr and crop the borders off and resize so its proper 16:9 size then resize to full 720x480 and use the anamorphic flag. since its an enlargening resize iwould only recomend that if you have a widescreen tv. if your tv is 4:3, leave things alone
nick - true.. well.. i was aware widescreens have zoom features. didnt know they all did. (guess its probably a must considering the amount of 4:3 'widescreen' movies/tvshows around) well.. with the excellent filters/resizers (lanczos) available for enlarging, i would do the resize unless your tv's real time resize is just as good. (id be willing to drop an audio track or extra to gain the bitrate headroom if needed) but again.. ONLY if my tvs resize wasnt up to par.
