I'm having trouble with CPU hungry drum VSTs, in this case Kore player, though I've tried other similar VSTs and got similar results, the cymbols tend to cut off at the ends in places and I also get other noises like buzzes. I've had lots of good advice from members of this forum in other threads, but without spending money I don't have, I've run out of options. Last night I thought I'd try one last thing:- I muted all tracks other than the drums and listened all the way through the whole track and it sounded perfect, 'great' I thought, 'I'll just render this to a stem track and away we go', but when playing back the rendered track I could hear that the same problems had been recorded onto the stem track. Is there a way to change the settings when rendering to stem? (I noticed that it was rendering up to 3x in places) if I could set it to render in real time would this help?
Chris, I tried applying the track FX as a new take and had similar results to stem rendering. I just find it odd that I hear the problems when all tracks are active, it goes away when only the drums are active, but comes back when I render it (by whatever method) even though the other tracks are muted and offline.
No, not new, I've had it ever since I've tried to use these CPU hungry VSTs (kore, Proteus, Battery, I've tried them all) I know my system is not really up to it, I'm just trying to find a work around. I've had lots of suggestions (very much appreciated I must add) but none of them quite do it for me, either the drum sound isn't right, or the demo limitations a hinderence, or CPU usage is too high etc. etc.
I would think that freezing the VST, and running straight audio would do it, but if that isn't the case, maybe there's something else going on. Admittedly, I am no PC guru, but if you post your PC specs, then perhaps someone who is might be able to help.

Hey celfyn, Do you have the box "Inform plug-ins of offline rendering state" checked? (Options>Preferences>VST>Inform plug-ins...) If not, give that a shot and try a drum track render. HTH [EDIT}]: Just read your other thread. Did you solve the PIO mode problem with your drive? If not, you should be able to, although it can be a bitch. If you've not tried this already, remove the PIO drive (uninstall) in device manager and reboot. Sometimes when something goes wonky with windows, it will change your system drive from DMA mode to PIO (some kind of BS failsafe mode) this will bog down your entire system and you can change it back (just not always easily). If the removal & reboot doesn't do the trick, do a google search for another route, this has happened to me on more than one occasion and I was able to rectify the problem eventually. Good luck!

Syd, "Do you have the box "Inform plug-ins of offline rendering state" checked?" I'll give that a try when I get back to my DAW "remove the PIO drive (uninstall) in device manager and reboot. Sometimes when something goes wonky with windows, it will change your system drive from DMA mode to PIO (some kind of BS failsafe mode) this will bog down your entire system and you can change it back (just not always easily)" It's the "just not always easily" bit that worries me, not being a techie, I'm always a bit wary of uninstalling hardware for fear of not getting it back if it all goes wrong.
Just did it here (wasn't having a problem but just to test), rebooted fine. Just a recap: "DMA if available" in device manager under your IDE controller properties. Check 'em all under there and set all to DMA. Find your system drive under "Disk drives", under the "Properties" section of that drive click "Uninstall". If you're not sure which drive is your system drive, just do them one at a time and then check after reboot to see if it put the drive back into DMA mode. [EDIT] Here's a link to an article which describes what may be happening with your drive/controller. In this article they suggest uninstalling the entire IDE controller channel, try that if the drive uninstall/redetect method doesn't work for you. [EDIT#2] If that doesn't work, then check your cables like the article says, first to make sure that they're 80 conductor cables (not 40) and then to see if the connections are tight.

With some of the Kore player presets (particularly the Sky Kit and Made in Rock) set your audio preferences to record stems to real time. This is a known Kore player issue that concerns its handling of your onboard memory and has nothing to do with Reaper. Since doing this I haven't had any problems. Oh, and it's best to record your stems one at a time. Hope this helps, Steve.
Steve, "set your audio preferences to record stems to real time" How do I do this? Not sure if you mean in Reaper or in Kore, either way i can't find this setting. Thanks [edit] found the setting, tried it, unfortunately didn't help, but many thabks anyway
