i have recently replaced my cam belt on my 850, the one that i replaced apperars to have been put on the wrong way round, although there were no markings as such the "volvo" writing was upside down not readable as i had always believed...my new belt had directional indicators.... Question..... in the modern day with high quality belts does the direction really matter, the lobes are symetrical eitherway round and i find it hard to believe a manufacturer can make a belt with stronger lobes...one way, which would appear more complex than both ways... the belt did it 80k tour tho and showed very little sign of wear any comments from the knowledgeable? :) cheers jod

I've never heard that they are directional. Oh, sorry, just seen that you wanted replies from the 'knowledgeable'.:)

Hi, I have a feeling that the direction indicators are there to be used in conjunction with the markers for setting the timing (to make sure you have timing and belt all in correct positions)... The fact that you have yours in the wrong way round won't mean that the belt will fail/break early but that the markings for timing will be in the wrong place. Des. . . ;)
